Searching For Bobby Fisher: Gripping, surefooted tirade, based on a real tale: A dad finds that his seven-year-old child has a prodigy for chess, and enters him in opposition, trailing scene of what this does to the boy’s conscience-and his pristine pleasure of the game. Poignant, heart-rending at times particularly for some parents and extremely well finished. Stuart Little: Stuart is a little mouse without a home. When he is taken in and adopted by a family with the last name of Little, he becomes Stuart Little. He then starts a new with his new found friends. This includes dealing with his rival Snowball, the family cat.
Edward: Trenchant if unnecessarily vicious adaptation of the Christopher Marlowe play, written in 1592, in reference to the demise of the frankly gay British queen who denies his empress for a man lover. Regardless of 14th century setting, some characters wear modern-day clothes, and film works relatively well as a condemnation of 20th century gay-slamming. Not for all tastes, however by no means boring. Lennox, previously of the Eurythmics, appears in one scene harmonizing Cole Porter’s “Every Time We Affirm Farewell. Cast includes Steven Waddington, Kevin Collins, Andrew Tieman, John Lynch, Dudley Sutton, Tilda Swinton, Nigel Terry, and Annie Lennox. (91 minutes, 1991)

When he decides he has had enough, he gets a real assignment, but just what is really going on?
Murders in the Rue Morgue: Sensationalistic reworking of Poe tale. The competitors at Grand Guignol-type theaters suddenly become sufferers of genuine-life slayings, and gory goings-on. Set in Paris, although filmed in Spain. Cast includes Jason Robards, Herbert Lom, Christine Kaufinann, Lilli Palmer, and Adolfo Celi. (87 minutes, 1971)
Roger & Me: Empowered, darkly sarcastic documentary-fashion film in regards to one gentleman’s tries to track down Basic Motors chairman Roger Smith, to show him what his plant closing did to the town of Flint, Michigan, where 30,000 jobs were lost. Filmmaker, storyteller Michael Moore builds an irresistible mix of documentary and funny composition in this exclusive piece of Americana. (87 minutes, 1989)
Dragnet: Aykroyd is a joke rebirth of Jack Webb, playing Sgt. Joe Friday’s thick although committed nephew in this burlesque. Hank is fun as his freewheeling new companion, with Morgan, Webb’s onetime companion, now advertised to commander of the LAPD. Starts out relatively ludicrous then goes flat. However, the punch line is a screech. Aykroyd co-scripted this movie with Mankiewicz and Alan Zweibel. Cast includes Dan Aykroyd, Tom Hanks, Christopher Plummer, Harry Morgan, Alexandra Paul, Jack Halloran, Elizabeth Ashley, and Dabney Coleman. (106 minutes, 1987)
